Understanding Your Travel Insurance Poilcy

Recently on-board a cruise in Alaska, many passengers became ill due to an unknown virus (they suspect it was Norwalk disease). The interesting aspect of the story however, is that the guests believed that they were going to be compensated through their travel insurance providers but may very well not be.

Two sets of families spent their “vacation” recovering in their cabins and obviously want to be reimbursed. According to some industry experts, travel insurance policies don’t generally protect against quarantines.

More often than not, the coverage will only shelter the on-board medical expenses. Furthermore, in the event that the insurance did cover quarantines, the vacationers would have to make the claim on-board straight from the doctor while still on the cruise.

Let this be a lesson learned for anybody reading this that every policy should be scrutinized carefully purchase. Understand every aspect of the coverage including what is protected and what is not.
